JURKIEWICZ WINS LOW OVERALL AND MJTS TEXAN SPOT AT GREY SILO
Waterloo, ON (July 26, 2010) Players on the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) battled the links that wind around the Grand River at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo this past weekend, vying for division titles and an paid entry into the Texas Junior Golf Tours Barton Creek Holiday Classic this December.
Players endured some wet conditions during round one on Saturday as it rained off and on for most of the day, however Sunday saw beautiful weather which led to some good scoring opportunities.
Brian Jurkiewicz, 17, who hails all the way from Hamburg, New York State, fired 74-73 (147) to edge defending champion, Sterling Emery, 19, of Orangeville (75-73=148) for the Boys 17-19 title and low overall honours, securing the paid entry to the Texan event along the way. Chipping in on number 13 for birdie was my tournament highlight, said Jurkiewicz, who is enjoying a solid fourth season on the MJT. It is something that I will never forget and it was the highlight of my year (to win).
