Sky soars at MJT Mini Tour with a stellar 5-under par performance

Under the hot, sunny skies of Alberta, the Triple Creek Golf Course in Millet, AB, was abuzz with excitement on July 11 as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour for 12U made its latest stop. Young golfers from three provinces gathered to showcase their skills and determination, competing for titles in five divisions and vying for coveted qualifying spots in the MJT Mini Tour National Championship, set to take place in Tsawwassen, BC, this August.
 
Shane Sky, 9, from Foothills, AB, delivered a standout performance in the MJT Boys 9-10 division, securing his division title with an exceptional 5-under-par, 65.
 
Other notable performances were seen by Minxing Matt Li, 11, of Surrey, BC, in MJT Boys 11-12 (74), Danika Horcica, 12, from Edmonton, AB, in MJT Girls 11-12 (69), Ain Lee, 10, from Sylvan Lake, AB, in MJT Girls 9-10 (74), and Jordy Bain, 7, of Edmonton, AB, in MJT Boys 8U (81).

Twelve-year-old Danika Horcica from Edmonton, AB, is no stranger to the MJT podium. With confidence, she revealed her winning strategy: "Making sure I was in a good mindset and also that every part of my game was good." Her verdict on the event? "10/10, MJT always does a great job of setting up tournaments." It looks like Horcica's not just playing for the trophies—she's also in it for the top-notch experience!

Jordy Bain, the 7-year-old from Edmonton, AB, shared his winning approach: "I had a practice round with my family and played lots of golf the last few weeks." When asked about his secret to success on the green, Bain explained, "I concentrate on each shot and line up my putts." His final thoughts on his stellar performance? "It makes me feel really good!"

Nine-year-old Shane Sky from Foothills, AB, soared to victory with a jaw-dropping performance: 5 birdies, 2 eagles, and a spectacular 5-under par score. When asked about his preparation for the tournament, Sky noted, "I worked on chipping and putting." His strategy for staying on top? "I just tried to not over swing. Hit fairways and greens!" With a glowing review of the event, Sky rated it "10 out of 10."

Minxing Matt Li, 11, hailing from Surrey, BC, showcased his unique mental game strategy at the recent tournament. "I can stay focused by thinking I will be fine and I will not mess up by thinking about my past few holes and thinking that those holes were all right." When reflecting on his victory, Li expressed, "This win gives me confidence because we are driving across Canada, and this is the first tournament in a different province for me.” Looks like he's got his golf game and travel game down pat!
