Hole-in-one and playoff highlights MJT Mini Tour Invitational at Quilchena

 
A select field of highly skilled young players aged 12 and under on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, Canada’s #1 Junior Tour, qualified for the special MJT Mini Tour’s Order of Merit (OOM) Invitational on the private Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond, BC, on May 25. The field was limited to a maximum of 50 competitors, who battled it out for titles in six divisions on the deceptively challenging par 73 course.

Highlights included a playoff in the MJT Boy 9-10 division and a brilliant hole-in-one on the challenging 8th hole by nine-year-old Sydney Wang from Vancouver, BC, who ended up placing seventh place in the MJT Girls 9-10 division.  Long Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin competition results can be found online here; top finisher scores and quotes from division winners are featured below.

Annabel Zhao, 8, of Richmond, BC, conveyed her feelings about winning the MJT Girls 8U title by stating, "I feel excited and happy." She emphasized the importance of camaraderie, mentioning, ‘making friends’ as a significant aspect of her experience.

Amidst very tight competition, Luna Zhou, 9, of Vancouver, BC, edged out a one stroke victory in the MJT Girls 9-10 division. "I feel happy," she stated with satisfaction, as only five strokes separated the top six finishers.

Chloe Zhang, 10, of Vancouver, BC, expressed her excitement at winning the MJT Girls 11-12 title in a countback over Lucy Li, 12, also of Vancouver, after both players had tied for the lead with a score of 76. "I feel great,” said Zhang. “Especially that it was a countback! I almost got an eagle on the last hole."

Ethan Jiang, 7, of Vancouver, was the MJT Boys 8U winner after firing a 75 to win by one stroke over Edward Yu, 8, also of Vancouver. "I'm very happy," said Jiang. He further added, "I like MJT very much."

MJT Boys 9-10 winner, Kaiwen Jiang, 10, of Maple Ridge, BC, shared his mixed emotions after a thrilling playoff with Theo Zhou, 10, of West Vancouver, stating, "I feel tired and excited. I feel tired because we played three holes for a playoff."

Jackson Wang, 12, of Surrey, BC, noted, ‘my putting and driving stood out,’ as he fired a fantastic 69 to win the MJT Boys 11-12 title.

About the MJT: The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is Canada’s #1 Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada. The organization is supported by partners across various tiers, including Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels.
