MJT adidas Series sees Park sisters shine and thrilling Peewee playoff at Tarandowah

 
Tarandowah Golfers Club in Springfield, ON, known for its authentic links-style reminiscent of Scotland and Ireland, hosted the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, Canada’s premier junior golf circuit, on May 25-26. This Canadian Open qualifier course set the stage for the third of six National events in the MJT adidas Series, which offered young golfers an opportunity to test their skills on a renowned course and rewarded top performers with fabulous gifting courtesy of adidas Golf.
 
The tournament also served as a qualifier for three majors: the East Coast Junior Championship in Moncton, NB, MJT Team Canada to the Jack Newton International Junior Classic in New South Wales, Australia, and the MJT National Team Challenge in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. With solid scores recorded across all six age divisions, the tournament showcased the remarkable talent of up-and-coming Canadian golfers.
 
Despite a brief rain delay on day one, weather conditions ultimately proved exceptional, allowing players to navigate the rugged and rustic course with determination and skill over two days of solid golf. Jax Sisson, 18, of LaSalle, ON, secured Low Overall and the MJT Junior Boys Division Title with an impressive eight stroke lead (77,71=147). 

In the Girls Divisions, 14-year-old Nobelle Park, of Oakville, ON, won Low Overall honours and the MJT Girls 15-19 Division title (72,65=137), securing her East Coast Junior exemption and spot on Team MJT at the MJT National Team Challenge. A notable performance by Chi-Shen Lin, 12, of Toronto, ON, in the MJT Peewee Boys Division, saw him secure an exciting playoff win against co-leader, Hoffmann Tchong, 12, of Markham, ON.
 
Other top performing division winners were Brayden Card, 15, of Cambridge, ON, in MJT Juvenile Boys (148), Bryce Burridge, 13, of London, ON, in MJT Bantam Boys (155), and Kaprice Park, 14, from Oakville, ON, in MJT Girls U15 (143).

Kaprice Park, a 14-year-old from Oakville, ON, triumphed in securing the MJT Girls U15 title. Expressing her confidence, Park exclaimed, "I feel very assured for the rest of the season because I shot under par." She added, "It’s great to have this event."

From Oakville, ON, MJT veteran Nobelle Park secured both the MJT Girls 15-19 and Low Overall Girls titles. With a remarkable five-under par score on day two, Park attributed her success to ‘making a lot of good putts on the second (round)’.

Following a tie at 162 total score between 12-year-old Chi-Shen Lin from Toronto, ON, and Hoffmann Tchong from Markham, ON, in the MJT Peewee Boys division, Lin secured the title with a par finish on the second hole of the playoff. "(I feel) good because I beat my opponent in the playoff," Lin said. He added, "It was very good," referring to the tournament overall.

With a single-stroke lead, Bryce Burridge, 13, from London, ON, showcased his skill by carding eight birdies over two days to clinch the Bantam Boys title. After completing 36 holes, Burridge expressed feeling 'good' and relieved to have the opportunity to rest.

Amidst stiff competition in round one, 15-year-old Brayden Card from Cambridge, ON, finished with a solid 71 to secure the Juvenile Boys win. “It feels good because I wasn’t feeling the best yesterday, but was able to come out and shoot a good round under difficult conditions,” explained Card. “My short game really saved me. Without my short game, I wouldn’t have been able to win today.”

Jax Sisson, an 18-year-old from LaSalle, ON, shared how his MJT Junior Boys win has bolstered his confidence. “I am grateful to have won an MJT title. I am now confident in my abilities going forward.” Sisson also expressed his appreciation, adding, “I would like to thank the organizers for putting on a great tournament.”
