Fisher wins back-to-back MJT Future Stars Invitational titles to qualify for PGA TOUR America’s ATB Classic

In a thrilling playoff victory, Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour member, Kye Fisher, 19, of Leduc, AB, secured an exemption into the PGA TOUR America’s ATB Classic at Northern Bear Golf Club in Sherwood Park, AB, after defending his title as champion at the MJT Future Stars Invitational presented by ATB on June 22 and 23.

The MJT Future Stars Invitational presented by ATB at Northern Bear featured 18 top juniors who qualified from across Canada, competing in a 36-hole stroke-play event under PGA TOUR conditions the week leading into the ATB Classic at the same venue. This unique opportunity offered participants a full professional tour experience and the chance to win an exemption into the PGA TOUR America's ATB Classic.

In a nail-biting finish, Fisher (73-75), Tate Bruggeman, 17, of Edmonton, AB (73-75), and Josiah Tong, 18, of Heritage Pointe, AB (77-71), all finished regulation tied for the lead at 148 and it took two sudden death playoff holes for Fisher to punch his ticket into the ATB Classic.

“I stayed focused and composed by sticking to my routine and game plan,” said Fisher, who aims to draw from his experience last year in the same PGA TOUR America’s event.  “This win provides me an amazing opportunity to play in a professional tour event.  I’m looking forward to this.”

“This is such a cool tournament for the junior golfers,” said Trent Matson, MJT National Operations Director. “We are very appreciative to partner with ATB and Linx Marketing on this incredible experience for MJT members. This is a dream come true for the winner, making a start on the PGA TOUR America’s ATB Classic.”

The field competed over two days on the difficult Northern Bear Golf Club track from 7,352 yards (Tournament Tees), contending with thick rough and firm, fast greens.  Players and families were allowed ‘inside the ropes’ and were treated like PGA TOUR Canada competitors during an incredible weekend.
