Impressive field of 88 compete in the heat on MJT Mini Tour at Musqueam

Tournament Highlights:
- An impressive field size of 88 young golfers aged six to 12 competed in the heat on Sunday, June 26, in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Mini Tour at Musqueam Golf Course in Vancouver, BC.
- Each division winner qualified for the MJT Mini Tour National Championship at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course in Tsawwassen, BC, scheduled for August 24-25.
- Tiger Zhao, 11, of Vancouver, BC, claimed the low overall boys score after he shot a two-over-par 62, winning his second MJT Boys 11-12 division title on the 2022 MJT BC circuit.
- Karissa Zhao, 12, of West Vancouver, BC, fought it out for first place in the MJT Girls 11-12 division, taking the division and low overall girls title on the weekend with a score of 64.
- In his very first MJT outing, James Qui, 9, of Surrey, BC, edged out a one-stroke victory in MJT Boys 9-10 after finishing with a 65.
- Tough competition in the MJT Girls 9-10 division led to a tie for first place, with Jodi Li winning over Lucy Li by countback after both eight-year-olds had carded fine scores of 68.
- Haojun (Kevin) Zhu, 8, of Surrey, BC, also edged a one-stroke victory to top the podium in a fully stacked MJT Boys 8U division. Another highlight in the MJT Boys 8U division was the play of the day from Luca Glasner, 7, of Vancouver, BC, who made a 30 yard pitch up onto the green and in for an eagle on hole nine.
- MJT newcomer Victoria Shen, 8, of Surrey, BC, shot 74 to beat Luna Zhou, 7, of Vancouver, BC, by one stroke for the MJT 8U Girls title.

Some highlights were when I hit a beautiful shot over the water, and when I hit a straight driver. If things weren’t going as planned I just tried to talk to my friends and calm down.”

I am thankful for my family and coaches, and look forward to playing more tournaments in the future. A highlight was when I missed my shot on 18 into the hazard, but managed to still make a four. I try not to think about my score, and just focus on my next shot, which is how I stay calm under pressure.”
