Over 90 young golfers compete in weather-shortened MJT G&G Brands Classic at Pagoda Ridge; Liu qualifies for both ATB Future Stars and National Team Challenge
Tournament Highlights:
-
A final field of 92 young golfers teed it up on a rainy weekend in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT G&G Brands Classic at Pagoda Ridge Golf Course, in Langley, British Columbia, May 14-15.
-
Rain on day two shortened the event to 27 holes for Junior, Juvenile and Bantam Boys, and to 18 holes for the Girls and Peewee Boys divisions.
-
Harvey Liu, 14, of Surrey, BC, took the MJT Juvenile Boys and low overall boys title with a 27 hole scorecard total of 74-35 (109), securing exemptions into both the PGA Tour Canada-affiliated ATB Future Stars Invitational in Edmonton, AB, this June, and the MJT’s National Team Challenge presented by Freedom 55 Financial in Niagara Falls, ON, this September.
-
Denby Carswell, 17, of Burnaby, BC, won the MJT Junior Boys division with a 27 hole total of 74-36 (110). His quote summed up the event: “It feels pretty good to win. I met and played with some great people so it feels good to come out on top. I think really though the best part about the tournament was coming out on day two in the pouring rain, and still seeing everyone happy and ready to play.“
-
MJT veteran, Abby Chow, 18, of Coquitlam, BC, took the MJT Girls 15-19 and low overall girls title with a final 18 hole score of 74, qualifying for the National Team Challenge.
