Satish, Collins, Mak and Ashkar take MJT Mini Tour titles at Fergus

The weather was ideal and scoring conditions were good for the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour Series at Fergus Golf Club in Fergus, ON, where players aged 12 and under battled it out for Boys and Girl Division titles in Atom (10 years and under) and Peewee (11 to 12 years) on Saturday, July 8.

In the MJT Atom Girls division, it was Swetha Sathish, 9, of Oakville, ON, who took home the winner’s trophy with a one stroke victory over Elika Ekmali, of Markham, ON. Sathish said, “I love the format of the tournament, the course was awesome and really fun! I feel really good and happy, and I feel like I did the best.”

Milannia Collins, 12, of Markham, ON, shot 87, and won by one stroke over Payton Costabile, of Ayr, ON, in the MJT Peewee Girls Division. Collins was asked how she felt about winning and said, “Happy and proud that all my practice paid off. My drives helped me out a lot.”

In the MJT Atom Boys division, Austin Mak, 10, of Mississauga, ON, won by six strokes after he shot a round of 86. “(The win) feels great because it’s my first time being a champion,” he said afterwards.

Nima Ashkar, 12, of Guelph, ON, shot 88 to win the MJT Peewee Boys division by two strokes. “It feels good winning my first MJT event on a long course, and it is nice to win on the MJT Tour,” he stated. “Putting was the best part of my game. It was a fun and challenging course.”

Closest to the Pin and Long Drive prizes were also awarded and results can be viewed online.
